The Pardee Dam is a 345 foot-high dam located in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains in Northern California about 30 miles (48 km) northeast of Stockton. The dam impounds the waters of the Mokelumne River which marks the boundary between Amador and Calaveras Counties. The impounded water forms Pardee Reservoir, the primary source of water for the East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) in the San Francisco Bay Area. The reservoir normally extends over an area of 3 square miles (7.8 sq km) and has a capacity of 215,000 acre-feet. The water is transported from Pardee Reservoir across the Central Valley via three large steel pipe aqueducts to several storage reservoirs located in the hills east of San Francisco Bay which supply drinking water to the East Bay region. The water is also used to generate electric power and for recreation. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pardee Dam
The ranking score is used to determine how "popular" a trip or location is. It is calculated based off of a weighted average of the number of reviews and the user ratings. For example, a location with 2 reviews and an average rating of 5 will have a lower "ranking score" than one with 10 reviews and an average rating of 4. This is because even though the first location has a better average rating, it has not been reviewed as much as the second location, so it is not as "popular". In the future we may modify the ranking score to take in additional factors, such as the number of views, comments, and photos.
